Legislation

Waste Legislation and Policy has been driven primarily by the EU for over 20 years for adoption into UK Legislation and Policies, so this index lists the current relevant legislation relevant to the UK – which has become more complex as England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales increasingly take more control over their destinies for waste and recycling.

The list below captures all of the legislative arrangements linked through WikiWaste for the four countries of the UK, and will be added to and split by country (UK wide, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and Wales) as the platform expands and develops.

Purpose

Legislation provides the tools for the way policy is delivered and the fabric against which regulators enforce. Legislation may use economic or taxation as tools to influence change, or may require specific compliance with, for example, environmental emissions standards, to control and/or improve the environment.

Approach

This category captures main legislation that exists in the delivery of infrastructure and the wider waste sector in the UK, but is not a comprehensive reference list at the current time
