Historical Data Limitations Clin Waste
Historically not all data for Clinical Waste Incinerators has been consistently collected via Annual Reports and Waste Returns both in the way the tonnage is recorded and, in some cases, where some data has not been collected for older sites.
In 2024 this became more consistent, although some Residual Waste EFW sites are recording Clinical/Healthcare Waste as Commercial & Industrial Waste.
To some degree the historical figures were also distorted by the Environment Agency allowing the incineration of higher-risk Healthcare Waste during the pandemic via Residual Waste EfW sites under a Regulatory Position Statement[2] that was withdrawn in July 2021.
