Economics
The UK has used a range of Economic tools to influence, shape and encourage development of market sectors, and historically the main influences on the UK waste infrastructure has related to incentives for the development of renewable energy.
WikiWaste captures different economic tools and mechanisms that are used to encourage and incentivise change (more ‘pull’ mechanisms for example the Renewable Heat Incentive), rather than tools intended to tax activity, which are separately listed. The influence of gate fees and commodity prices on the economic viability of the market, and the impact of infrastructure on supply and demand, are presently excluded from WikiWaste, but will be added to if there is an appetite from users of WikiWaste in the future.

Purpose

Approach
This category captures main economic tools that have been used in conjunction with policy and legislation, to influence the development of the UK waste sector.
